We were looking for Puerto Rican food in the area and saw this option. We couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! We were intrigued by the 'Rico Soul' cuisine and it was delicious! The owner of the restaurant was not only friendly but very accommodating. In addition to our order, this restaurant was putting out catering orders and more walk ins like us. I highly recommend anyone looking for something both Latin and Soul food - home cooking at its best...made and served with lots of love! Notable were the greens, cornbread, Pollo Guisado, potato salad and the Arroz con Gandules. Take out only.

Cousin Mo and The Weekend Spot never disappoints me! I moved to Atlanta and when I come back home, I try to get to The Weekend Spot!!! Since I have already done a review, I'll just share that I'm so glad they are still here! I can go back to Atlanta with a full stomach! Ha! Again, the Caramel Chocolate Crunch Cake will make you slap yo mama!! So I ate mine before I got back to her!!! We ordered Smothered Turkey Wings, Stew Beef, and Kettle Fried Chicken! Sides included mashed potatoes, corn souffle, yellow rice, Gaelic string beans, mixed veggies, and mac 'n cheese! Dessert: Cheesecake w/ Raspberry Drizzle and Caramel Chocolate Crunch Cake!

Oh my gawd! where do I begin???!!!! I forgot to check in... This place has been bookmarked for several years. Lol I don't understand what goes on with me because I live close enough to here and yet haven't made it my way to visit...how come???? Well I just left this place and was very hungry, couldn't wait to get home to eat, we had to dig in right on the corner, in the car lmao! So glad to sample it while it was HOT and fresh! I'm telling you, this food was well worth the money and wait! Let me tell you a little something about this place Located on Springfield Ave in Newark, cars flying by so keep a keen eye out or else you'll miss it. Walk in, very clean, order food to go, small seating area but I don't think you can eat here. Service was pleasant enough and the environment appeared clean and well organized. Now warning, this is an cook to order establishment so there is quite some wait time involved. We waited almost an hour which seems ridiculous, but actually well worth the wait. Food was so fresh and delicious, I was so impressed! Ordered several things and here is what I thought about the food: Idc, I'll eat dessert first lol First thing I tasted was the corn soufflé muffin and MY GOD! This is a MUST, I can come here just for these alone! Food is very rich, there's butter in everything, I can taste it! Am I complaining...ABSOLUTELY NOT! Let's rate the rest, shall we! Oxtails....1000 stars! Perfectly cooked, the gravy very flavorful,PERFECT! Rice and peas...PERFECT! BBQbeef short ribs...PERFECT! Collards...PERFECT! Crab cakes were good but a little too much filler, but the remoulade that goes with it accompanied well! Mac was good, not my fave, but re-orderable lol Crab Mac was pretty good! I'm telling you, somebody done put they FOOT in this food! (This is the HIGHEST COMPLIMENT for those who don't know!) I ain't lyin! This food was sooo good! All in all I would urge anyone to try this place if you are craving soul food! The food is really delicious and satisfying. Well worth the wait.. I can't wait to come back to try other things on the menu! However, I will order online and pick up so I won't be waiting for so long... Awesome job guys!

I'm glad to be updating my review to 4 stars. Since my first experience I've ordered three more times. Those deliveries included: honey bbq shrimp once with collards/cabbage mix and rice and pigeon peas. Super yummy flavored shrimp, they were fried so softens a little in transit. Fresh veggies and authentic spices used in the rice. Nice olive surprise. The other time ordered sides included Mac and cheese, and creamed spinach. Mac can use some seasoning. Louisiana bbq shrimp with creamed spinach and garlic mash. I wish the shrimp were shelled for this particular meal and the sauce was more contained because it spilled over into my spinach and potatoes. For the potatoes that wasn't too bad, but the creamed spinach consistency was messed up. Other than that solid meal. Shrimp and grits again. Not as great as the first time but could have just needed to been heated up. Corn soufflé muffins. These are divine. I make a delicious spoon bread myself so I was pleased. Spend the extra 1.75 for the two pieces. Corn and crab chowder was cool. Black beans and white rice. Definitely delivers on promised Latin soul flavors. Just wish white rice came with beans purchase because $4 extra for it was surprising. Chocolate crunch cake. Good. Cake is light and fluffy wish it had more crunch and less whipped cream, but I was sad when it was gone. Overall Monique is very humble and polite. She uses great spices and delivers well on taste. The restaurant follows special notes in uber eats or calls to let you know they can't. I also like the little candies they include to finish your meal. I'm looking forward to dining in when that is available.

My cousin and I were trying to find a place to eat because we were starving. So, I went to handy dandy Yelp to see what good places we could find in the area. This was one of the first places I saw with rave reviews.. And I liked the pictures so we made our way here. There was a couple eating and when their food came out, I asked them to tell me how it was and they both said their meals were delicious. We opted to get a bunch of items and split them. I decided on the oxtails and grits. I never had this combination of foods so I was ecstatic to try it. I ordered the barbecue wings for an appetizer. These wings were some of the best wings I had ever had in my life. My cousin got the fried shrimp as an appetizer and they were fried perfectly. I wasn't disappointed at all. The oxtails and grits tasted like heaven. The mac and cheese was decadent to say the least. The service was on point also. Mo was so friendly and even got us a referral to get pedicures afterwards. I'll be back very soon to show my mother a good time.
